Serving 6,000 trained youth, it aims for 75% to secure paid freelance work and at least 50% to transition to full-time jobs, boosting economic mobility for themselves and their families. The first year will enroll 200 youth.

Why this project excited us: This project aims to assess outcomes and gather feedback from Kenyan farmers using Farmer.Chat by conducting randomized interviews with 400 farmers. In collaboration with 60 Decibels, a leading impact measurement vendor, Digital Green will use these insights to refine Farmer.Chat’s effectiveness in meeting farmers’ information needs, ensuring high-quality standards, and shaping a scale-up plan for Kenya. Given that thousands of farmers use the app, any program improvements informed by this study will have a substantial impact on the farming community due to its extensive reach.

Why this project excited us: Digital Green’s Farmer.Chat AI based farmer guidance tool has already proven its value during its first year testing in Kenya by exceeding expectations of user engagement and income impacts, reaching over 155,000 farmers with timely, actionable advice that directly improved incomes and farm practices. This is the first renewal grant of a project originating from our AI for Economic Opportunity round 1.
